Among the Hallowe’en customs he gathered, Hone gave a Welsh game from Owen’s Welsh Dictionary. Young men and women hunted for a sprig of ash with an even number of leaves, and the first of either sex to find one called out Cyniver. The first of the other sex to find one answered, and if the omen held good the two would marry.
