The yarn ladder on Hallowe’en

On Hallowe’en two Welsh girls made a little ladder of yarn without breaking it from the ball and threw it out of the window. One wound it back in while repeating a Welsh rhyme, three times over, and the watcher would see the apparition of her future husband climbing the yarn ladder. Other Hallowe’en tests included stripping the leaves from a sage bush at midnight and hiding a knife among the leeks.

Two girls would agree to make a little ladder of yarn without breaking any portion from the ball. The ladder was then thrown through the window.
