St Margaret’s dragon lent to St Sepulchre’s

The parish of St Margaret, Westminster, kept a dragon for the Midsummer Eve processions and was paid when a City parish borrowed it. Brand, quoting the printed churchwardens’ accounts of St Margaret’s, gives two shillings and eightpence received in 1491 from the churchwardens of St Sepulchre’s for the dragon, with a payment for dressing it and packthread. In 1502 the parish paid Michell Wosebyche six shillings and eightpence for making eight dragons.
