Lore and belief

A story of St David’s Well at Henfynyw in Cardiganshire told how an old man who went there alone on Midsummer Eve heard a voice from the water crying for help. When he asked who called, a hand rose from the well and bade him hold tight, but it was slippery and he let go, and the voice cried that it was bound for another fifty years. Trevelyan took the tale from her family collection and manuscripts.
