No longer kept

On St John’s Eve, and on some other feasts, people in the south of Ireland dressed a broomstick as a figure called a Bredogue. At dusk they carried it from cabin to cabin and pushed it suddenly through the door, and the fright caused much laughter. Dyer took this from Croker’s Researches in the South of Ireland.
