No longer kept

At Coventry it was the custom to eat God-cakes on New Year’s Day. They were three-cornered, about half an inch thick and filled with a kind of mincemeat. Cheap halfpenny ones were cried through the streets, while the better-off bought far grander ones, said to cost as much as a pound. Chambers took the account from Notes and Queries in 1856.

At Coventry, if not in other places throughout England, it is customary to eat what are called God-cakes on New-Year's Day.
