The Shepherd’s Almanack of 1676 recorded two pieces of weather lore for Shrove Tuesday. Thunder on the day foretold wind, a good store of fruit and plenty, and however much the sun shone on Shrove Tuesday, just so much would it shine on every day of Lent.

so much as the sun shineth on that day, the like will shine every day in Lent.
