On a Shrove Tuesday at Norwich a rider crowned as King of Christmas went through the streets on a horse trapped in tin foil, with the twelve months of the year going before him in disguise. The pageant marked the end of the festive season with the passing of the year. Strutt took the account from Blomefield’s history of Norfolk and set it beside the other mock kings of the holidays.
