At Christmas the children of Woodhouse near Sheffield went from neighbour to neighbour to beg their Christmas box with a rhyme. They wished each household a merry Christmas, a pocket full of money, a barrel full of beer, and a horse, a gig and a good fat pig to last the year. Then they asked for the box outright.

A horse and a gig And a good fat pig To serve you all the year. If you please, will you give me a Christmas box?
