Lore and belief

It was thought very lucky when Christmas Day fell on a Sunday, and ill-omened when it fell on a Saturday. An old song in the Harleian manuscripts promised a good winter, a fair dry summer and peace after a Sunday Christmas, but after a Saturday one a winter of storms that would kill man and beast, failed crops and many deaths among the old.

it was considered peculiarly lucky when Christmas-day fell on a Sunday, and the reverse when it occurred on a Saturday.
