Plough and harrow hung up for the twelve days

Over Christmas the farm labourers hung up the plough and harrow and did no field work until the twelve holidays were over, spending the time in piping and merriment. Herrick bids the swains rest so at the close of A New-yeares gift sent to Sir Simeon Steward.

And let the russet Swaines the Plough / And Harrow hang up resting now; / And to the Bag-pipe all addresse
