Among the Christmas sports of the young men was shoeing the mare, a game of the twelve holidays kept alongside blind-man’s-buff and the wassail bowl. Herrick names the care young men took over it in A New-yeares gift sent to Sir Simeon Steward, among the sports of the twelve holidays.
