In the Restoration years Poor Robin mocked the Puritans who had tried to put down Christmas. However much a sectary railed against the feast, he said, the man still liked Christmas pies well enough. He added that minced pies belonged to December just as pancakes and fritters belonged to February and tansies to April and May.

there is not a Sectarie, though he rail never so much on Christmas, yet loves Christmas-Pies well enough.
