A new carol every Christmas

In Wales a new Christmas carol was usually written each year by a local poet or rhymer and sung in church after the morning or evening service. A carol that pleased raised the poet’s name in the neighbourhood. Peter Roberts said the carols were really hymns on scriptural subjects and singled out those of Hugh Morris.
